Food Security

Food Security is a term referring to one’s ability to access the food they need to meet their needs. There are two terms to help us understand food security – on the household level and the community level:

Household Food Insecurity is the inadequate or insecure access to food due to financial constraints. Visit Community Connections’ Food Programs to learn more.

Community Food Security is achieved when citizens are able to access foods that are sustainably and ethically produced and meet their cultural and health needs. It is achieved through a robust food system that considers all of the inputs and outputs and looks at the whole system.

The Neighbourhood Kitchen

As part of Community Connections’ work towards building community food security, we have created The Neighbourhood Kitchen, a rent-able commercial kitchen.
