The Holiday Program
The holidays can be a difficult time for many in our community. Give the Gift of Choice this holiday season!
The Holiday season is just around the corner and Community Connections will be providing support to people in our community struggling with the affordability of the season in a number of ways. Historically, we accepted donations of toys, gifts, and gift cards from the community for redistribution amongst families, seniors and individuals in need.
THIS YEAR the resources have continued to diminish and as a result, capacity of food programming has continued to be reduced. We are prioritizing food support going into the holiday season for our community members in need. With this shift, we will not be offering the Gift portion of the Holiday Program, instead we are asking the community of Revelstoke to focus their holiday giving on food or monetary donations. This change is the result of an increasing crisis in food insecurity being felt nationally across Canadian food banks. The usage of food banks is at a historically high, record-breaking level- support for food bank programs has never been more needed.
What is the Holiday Program?
This annual program seeks to assist clients with the un-affordability of the December holiday season. We do this by distributing angel tree gifts, grocery gift cards and extra food to participants.
Who is eligible?
We take an approach similar to food bank eligibility. With an understanding of the program and its intentions, we believe the participants are the best people to decide their eligibility as they are the experts in their own life.
The Gift Tree
With the support of Revelstoke Credit Union and CIBC’s angel gift tree initiative, Community Connections help connect community members who have capacity to give extra with those who would benefit from the support via the gift trees.
In order to prepare in time for the giving season we wanted to let families and seniors with financial barriers know that Gift Tree signups are now available until NOV 12th.
Registration forms are available at both Main Office and Outreach during office hours.
If you have a little extra to give this holiday season, pick up a ‘Gift Tag’ at Revelstoke Credit Union or CIBC to sponsor a family or senior! RCU will be collecting tags for families and CIBC for seniors.
