Responding to the needs of the community by supporting local residents.

Our Story

Community Connections (Revelstoke) Society has been providing a broad range of professional integrated social services to Revelstoke and the surrounding community for more than 20 years. As an organization, we respect the diversity, capacity and strengths of the people we serve, our community and our co-workers. We recognize the integrity and unique natures of individuals and value the human capacity for growth and change: we strongly believe people are the experts in their own lives. As such we take into account an individual’s physical, mental and social experiences engaging in a whole system of beliefs rather than its individual components.

Our Approach

The work we do as an organization is to respond to the needs of the community by supporting the local residents, seeing them as the experts in their lives. We see people as separate from problems and are always seeking to understand and work to reduce the influence of the obstacles to people’s preferred lives. Every person we meet comes with their own story and individual meaning from what they have or are experiencing, they know their stories best and have the right to tell it in their words and terms.

Our work is grounded in collaborative, relational practice, with ethics and justice at the forefront of how we see the work and respond to community, group, family, and individual needs. We work alongside people in direct practice services; work with community partners and groups in local and regional community development work; and we work with systems, policies, and processes that influence the lives of the people we support directly and indirectly.

We are committed to collaborative and collective processes of practice and always seek to learn and critically reflect, on an ongoing basis. In taking a collective approach to offering support and connection our hope is to continually foster a sense of belonging. The approach aims to build and sustain a supportive work environment and an experience of accessing services that is inclusive, and supportive across the entire community, all ages, all stories within our service delivery objectives.

We are currently in the processing of creating a new Strategic Plan.
