Food Programs

If you are experiencing food insecurity, our food programs are here for you!

To meet the food security needs of the people in our community, Community Connections’ Food Programs offer free food pick up 2 times a week at our Food Bank. Food for our Food Bank is both purchased and donated by community members and local businesses through our Food Recovery Program.

The Food Program provides:

  • Fresh produce, dairy, meat and non-perishables.
  • Baby supplies, kids snacks, vitamins, and personal hygiene items as needed
  • When available – donated clothing, household items, furniture, blankets and bus tickets
  • Kids Backpack programme
  • Christmas programming during the month of December
  • Referrals to other services as required

Please inform us of any dietary restrictions or specific nutrition needs.

The Food Recovery Program

Our food recovery program collects foods that are fit for consumption but not fit for sale from local food retailers. Any waste is composted or fed to animals.

New from June 2022, excess food from food pick-up days will be diverted from food waste and made into nutritious ready-to-go meals by our Kitchen Manager, Austin Luciow, at the Neighbourhood Kitchen.

Contact us for more information on becoming a program partner or food waste recipient.

The Neighbourhood Kitchen

The Neighbourhood Kitchen is a shared commercial kitchen space managed by Red Seal Chef Austin Luciow. Austin will be making use of products not taken home by food bank clients and turning them into ready-to-eat meals.

The kitchen will also work with rental customers and area producers to concentrate on local businesses.

If you would like to rent the kitchen to host a course for business needs or volunteer please contact the kitchen manager at kitchen@community-connections.ca

Client Eligibility

There are no eligibility requirements. However, to register for the food bank, we will do a brief optional response questionnaire with clients prior to food access. This allows us to get to know our clients, introduce them to our programs and helps us to better understand the demographics of our client base and how to meet their needs.

Special Thanks

We have many dedicated volunteers who spend more than 500 hours each month sorting and repackaging food, assisting with distribution and helping at special events. We could not do what we do at the Food Programs without our amazing volunteers. Their commitment is immeasurable and invaluable!
