The 8th annual Emergency Services Fight Back Against Hunger community food drive that will be held on Tuesday, September 18.
This event brings together community groups and local Emergency Service Crews to hit the streets and fight back against hunger.
There are 3 purposes of this campaign.
1. The first is to raise awareness of food security issues locally, and to draw awareness to hunger within our community. Every week, approximately 110 households access the Community Connections Food Bank here in Revelstoke, with over 30% of individuals being children.
2. To build connections between Emergency Services teams and community groups.
3. Most importantly though, we are doing this to fill the cupboards of our food bank. With projects waning, donor fatigue and fewer government contributions, Community Connections Food Bank needs the help of our community.
Last year, with the help of 300+ volunteers, the Emergency Services food drive was able to collect over 12,000 lbs of food and thousands of dollars in cash donations. Imagine how long this supplements our vulnerable families and seniors’ cupboards! We try to hit every house on every street in every neighbourhood in this door-to-door blitz.
We are looking for volunteers to help at the event. If you would like to help, contact Jenna Fraser at firstname.lastname@example.org
