There was a decent-sized and very appreciative crowd, popcorn and lots of fun at last Friday’s Revy Rocks All-Ages Talent Show at the Community Centre. (I apologize for the lateness of this post but I’ve been awfully tired in the wake of my heart attack and photographer Andrea Lawson had some technical issues she had to deal with, too).
And there were some pretty good prizes, too.
To make this night possible, The Revelstoke Self Advocates applied for and received, the Self Advocacy Seeding Innovation (SASI) grant, awarded by the BC Association for Community Living (BCACL). With this grant, the Revelstoke Self Advocates wanted to give something back to their community. Aiming to provide an evening of family fun, the Self Advocates came up with the idea of hosting an all ages talent show.
Who are the Revelstoke Self Advocates? The Self Advocates are a group of individuals with developmental disabilities, living in Revelstoke, who advocate on behalf of themselves and others. Revelstoke’s Self Advocates work hard to make positive changes in their community, and in the lives of others. They find others who share the same kind of concerns, and work together towards change. The Talent Show was in partnership with BCACL and Community Connections.
